Holdingford School Board Briefs

The Holdingford School Board held their regular meeting on Wednesday, March 20, 2019. The meeting was called to order, the pledge was recited, the amended agenda was approved, and the consent agenda was approved. Items in consent agenda included: approval of the minutes from Feb. 27th, regular board meeting and the March 6 work session; approval of the schedule of bills in the amount of $259,202.54; approval of the district activity checks which totaled $3,313.49; approval of the electronic transfer for Feb. $3,595,004.72; the Treasurer’s report balance per books for the month of Feb. 2019 $14,312,793.91; approval of spring Coaches.

Superintendent Mr. Swenson reported on building planning, user groups will meet on Friday (3/22), facility meeting was held 3/20 where the 10-year LTFM plan was reviewed and the 2019 summer projects were discussed. He also informed the Board the roofing project is scheduled to start mid-April. Mr. Swenson reported he is talking with Greg Vandal to get the strategic planning process started and he will be meeting with Mr. Ebnet and Mr. Novak to discuss snow removal equipment. Mr. Swenson asked the Board to consider entry way options for trophy cases/kiosks, this item will be discussed further at the next Work Session.

Student Board Rep. Ms. Rudser reported spring sports have started practices, students are looking forward to the roof being repaired, she feels the tougher vaping consequences are making a difference and students are getting anxious with the ACT coming up on April 2.

Secondary Principal Ms. Safran reported on testing season. She thanked winter coaches and advisors. Ms. Safran congratulated Mr. Johnson and Mr. Smith on their accomplishments at recent contests for leading their students to earn superior ratings in both Choir and Band!

Elementary Principal Mr. Stang reported on Kindergarten round-up with 71 packets being given out. He thanked the staff for their efforts following testing protocols preparing for the spring testing. Mr. Stang informed the Board the PBIS Team is searching for a new theme for FY20. He also reported on Summer School, I Love to Read Month, PTA information night on Vaping, and May field trips.

Ms. Martini reported on the BSED meeting. The review of the bylaws was tabled until the next meeting, district caseloads were discussed, due process night recap was given and a tentative summer school plan was presented.

Other agenda items at the March 20 regular meeting included:

Approval of an elementary night custodial position being a full-time position.

Approval of a Resolution Directing the Administration to Make Recommendations for Reductions in Programs and Positions and Reasons Thereof.

Accept the bid from Matrix Communications Inc. for $172,170.16 to upgrade the Network system. The District is applying for e-rate funding for this project.

Approval of a new five-year postage machine lease with Dakota Mailing & Shipping Equipment Inc. The new lease is $7 a month less than the old lease.

Accepted the donation of $700 from the St. Wendel Sportsman Club for Trap Shooting with many thanks for the generous donation! 

Accepted the donation of $100 from the St. Stephen Sportsman Club for Trap Shooting with many thanks for the generous donation! 

Accepted the donation of $1000 from Two River Enterprise for Weight Room with many thanks for the generous donation! 

Hired Seth Young for Night Lead Custodian at Grade VII base rate plus night shift differential and pool certification. 

Accepted retirement resignation from Bob Dombrovski effective July 31-2019. With many thanks for his 15 years of service with the District!

The Board acknowledged Letters of Intent to Negotiate from the Educational Assistants, the Custodians, and the Teachers.

Approved Lane Change for Katrina Heringlake from BS Step 7 to BS30 Step 7 to be effective at the end of 3rd quarter. 

Accepted the resignation from Jessica Rausch as of 3/15/19. The Board thanked Ms. Rausch for 18+ years with the District and for a job well done!

The Holdingford School Board next regular meeting will be Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the High School LMC.
