The City of Avon is seeking a candidate for a full-time Public Works Technician II.

This position will perform skilled work and operate equipment involved in the repair and maintenance of city streets and utility systems. Must have ability to effectively operate skid steer, loader, snow plow, and other large equipment. Every third weekend shift and on-call required (max 20 min response). Must have current Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Minimum Qualifications: Construction knowledge and extensive mechanical experience. Additional training or education in equipment repair and maintenance, machinery, mechanics or related field. History of safe work practices and clean driving record. Minimum 2 years of work related experience.

Preferred: Class D water license, Class D sewer license. Experience working in a municipal public works department. Experience in street and utility maintenance.

Starting salary: $19.00/hour

Holdingford School Board Briefs

Board Chair Christensen called the April 3, 2019 Work Session of the School Board of ISD #738 to order in the Board Room at 6:01 PM

Mr. Meier reported the POC Committee met on 3/21/19 and will meet again on 4/4/19 the front entrance is still being developed and new exhaust fans for the roof are being considered. Mr. Swenson reported initial building plans are back and the user groups have taken a look, the bathrooms may need more stalls to accommodate the size of the gym, and the user groups are starting to discuss furniture and cabinetry.

Mr. Christensen reported the Finance Committee met on 3/27/19, staffing was reviewed and discussion on salary increases took place. Some choices need to wait until the legislature makes some decisions on funding. Tentative budget numbers have been ran with the unknown piece being what is coming from the state.

Mr. Swenson updated the Board on the Strategic Planning process. He distributed a proposal from Consultant Greg Vandal, which laid out several options. Mr. Wolter asked about state mandates and noted that the District Visions & Priorities should be updated and the Board Goals revised to support the District plan. Mr. Swenson conveyed the purpose for the plan is to create a Portrait of a Graduate with community, staff and board input. The consensus of the Board is to go with option one at a cost of approximately $2000. A tentative time line to start the process will be late August.

Ms. Heinze explained Fund 6 which has a balance of $221,000. The following projects will be completed by June 30, 2019: carpet replacement with tile for 5-6 pod and intermediate classrooms at an estimated cost of $15,300, wall mats for wrestling room at an estimated cost of $18,000, 30 exhaust fans replaced at an approximate cost of $150,000 and LED lights for gymnasiums at an estimated cost of $6,000.

Chris shared the snow removal plan for FY20. The plan is to lease a skid steer, purchase a broom and a snow blower for the skid steer, and acquire a blade with rubber strip on the bottom for a truck. The trucks are needing to be replace in the near future.

The next work session will be Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 at 6:00 PM in the Boardroom

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS

Notice is hereby given that the Avon Township Planning Commission, County of Stearns, Minnesota, will conduct two public hearing at the regular meeting of Planning Commission on April 24, 2019 in the Avon Township Hall (16881 Queens Road, Avon).

The first public hearing will begin at 7:05 PM to consider a request by David and Linda Braegelmann (19368 Quaker Rd, Avon, MN) for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for a Conventional Subdivision in the Avon Hills Conservation Area to split their property (PID 03.00917.0002) into two parcels.

The second public hearing will begin at 7:06 PM (or after the completion of the first hearing) to consider a request by Aaron Tschida (37014 Sara Lane, Avon; PID 03.01474.0009) for a variance to construct a 30’ x 36’ building 20 feet closer to the road than is currently allowed by ordinance.

An Ordinance Granting a Franchise to Midcontinent Communications to Maintain a Cable Communications System in the City Of Avon, Minnesota; Setting Forth Conditions Accompanying the Grant of the Franchise; Providing for Regulation and Use of the System; and Prescribing Penalties for the Violation of its Provisions

The terms of the Franchise Agreement grants Midco a 15 year non-exclusive right to construct utilities for the operation of a cable system within the City of Avon. It also includes a provision for a 3% franchise fee payable to the City of Avon and sets forth construction standards and provisions for system operation and maintenance, service, operation and administration. Township of Avon 

Notice of Open House & Annual Road Inspection

The Supervisors of Avon Township will conduct the annual Road Inspection on Saturday April 27, 2019, to identify roads in need of repair and to conduct any necessary business allowed by law. Supervisors will meet in the parking lot of the Avon Township Hall (16881 Queens Road, Avon) at 9:00 AM and proceed from there. Prior to the road inspection, from 8:30–9:00 AM, the Supervisors will be available to listen to residents and the Avon Township Maintenance Facility and Salt Shed will be open for public inspection. The Board of Appeal and Equalization for the City of Albany shall meet on at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at the Albany City Hall, 400 Railroad Avenue.

The purpose of this meeting is to determine whether property in the jurisdiction has been properly valued and classified by the assessor.

If you believe the value or classification of your property is incorrect, please contact your assessor’s office to discuss your concerns.
