3.0 Public Forum – The Robotics team did well in their recent competition held in Duluth, placing 15th out of 60 teams.  The students designed and constructed the entire robot themselves and many positives were discussed by the team and coaches.  A demonstration was given to the board and attendees of the meeting.

7.1 Building Project Updates

Breitbach Construction provided an update on the construction project.  Topics discussed included: budget, change orders, and site progress.  The crane is prepped and ready for installing concrete panels. Installation of the decking in the field house is slated for the end of this week and wall panels on the field house will begin being installed the following week.  Foundations for the auditorium are being installed currently.  Progress continues on the 6th grade wing.

7.2 Student Representatives

Winter sports are wrapping up, with Boys basketball playoffs starting tomorrow night.  The wrestling season is wrapped up, with 7 wrestlers placing at individual sections.  Girls BB lost last night to end their season in the sub section finals.  Madison Schmitz reached the 1000 point milestone.   Gabe Zierden placed 6th at State in wrestling. Jam the gym was very successful, with many donations to support the festivities.  Within the Econ challenge, Eli Johnson placed 4th and Anna Panek placed 2nd .  Anna Schultzenberg and Kendra Carbert tied for 4th also, with the team state bound!  Knowledge bowl took first, third, and fifth at the conference meet, and are Granite Ridge Champs.   Mock Trial made it all the way to the region semi finals.   Robotics placed 15th out of 60 teams at the Duluth completion.  In Speech, 4 members placed in Milaca.  Student council is working on a number of projects and events: a semi-formal dance, March Madness for books to promote reading, and discussing ideas for teacher appreciation.   NHS is involved with many activities and initiatives also:  Be the Match event, Kids Fighting hunger initiatives, 3-on-3 homeroom basketball tournament, Valentine’s Day gifts for Mother of Mercy residents, and planning for the Easter egg hunt.   

Fine arts night March 16th.   Students of the Month include: Mackenzie Wambach, Aaron Ainali, Peyton Dirkes, Haily Oswskey and Madison Stich

7.3 Purple Pride

-Albany Elementary Staff and Students thank you for welcoming the business office staff into your school building.  

-Schyler Jensen-Athey found a wallet with money in it in the hallway and turned it in to the office!

-Bob Schaefer, many thanks for working on the project in the health office.

-Alexis Studniski showed great initiative in helping with concessions and ticket taking.  Great job!

-Hannah Finkelson is commended for volunteering to help in the concessions stand. So friendly and helpful!

-Deb Rolfes is such a happy and positive presence at Avon Elementary.   Appreciate all the details she takes care of.

-Casey McGuire and Sarah Mendoza are doing a great job of getting staff and students involved in more all-inclusive activities.

-Mary Klasen is such an asset to our district as the Early Childhood Kids Co site leader.  Her experience is invaluable to our team.

    WHEREAS,  the School Board of Independent School District No. 745 adopted a resolution on January 25, 2017 directing the administration to make recommendations for reductions in programs and positions, and

    WHEREAS, said recommendations have been received and considered by the school board,

    BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No. 745 as follows:

    That the following programs and positions be discontinued and/or reduced:

    Coordinating Early Intervening Services from $ 40,000.00 to $ 20,000.00

    The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by  Member Paulsen                                      

and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  All present

and the following voted against: None            

whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.

8.5 Pool Improvements

Engineering drawings and plans were presented for improving the ventilation and air quality within the pool.  These plans were also vetted through the project architect, with their approval.    

Motion by Carbajal, second by Paulsen to proceed with the project with a $160,000 cap.

8.6 Building Naming Rights

General discussion surrounding naming rights for Blattner Energy and their generous donation took place.  BEAT (Blattner Energy Arts Theatre) and the BECC (Blattner Energy Community Center) have been vetted through the assigned committees and recommended for approval.
