David Jo Schlichting passed away on July 16 from natural causes at his home in Richfield. He was born Oct. 20, 1958, in Glenwood to Donald and Jannette (nee Fiereck) Schlichting. He graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1977, where he was a standout athlete in football, swimming and track.  He continued playing football at Hamline University where he graduated with a degree in business. He later attended the University of Minnesota’s Industrial Relations Masters Program. He worked in the field of human resources for many years at various companies in the Twin Cities.

David enjoyed hiking, swimming, biking and dancing, but the love of his life was fly fishing. He artfully tied his own flies and was rewarded with successful trout fishing outings where he adhered to the practice of catch and release.

Survivors include David’s mother, Jannette Schlichting of Sauk Centre; sister, Deborah (Charlie Blomme) Schlichting of Edina; brothers, Tom (Mary) Schlichting of Andover, Mike (Teresa) Schlichting of Bloomington and Randy (Louise) Schlichting of Blaine; nieces and nephews, Luke, Mackenzie, Kyle, Emily, Noah, Anne, Regina, Clai and Erin. David was preceded in death by his father, Donald Schlichting.

A private memorial service will be held on a future date. Arrangements are being handled by the Washburn-McReavy Edina Funeral Chapel.
