Our beloved husband, father, “Papa,” brother, and friend, Frederick “Fred” Vincent Ahles, 77, passed away peacefully at home in Newbury Park, California, surrounded by his family April 10, 2021.

Funeral services were May 1 at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church in Newbury Park, followed by burial at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village, California.

Fred was born in Albany to Lloyd and Ludwina Ahles Sept. 17, 1943. He graduated with the Albany class of 1961. Fred graduated from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud with a degree in economics. After college, Fred voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army where he earned the rank of captain and served in the Vietnam War. Shortly after his honorable discharge from the Army, he became a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was during his time in the Los Angeles office that he met and married his wife of 47 years, Jean Mandrillo Ahles. Fred and Jean were blessed with two daughters, Tracy and Cindy. Fred retired from the FBI after 28 years and continued investigative work with his own business and for several government agencies until he fully retired in 2016.

Fred and Jean enjoyed helping to care for their four grandchildren. Fred often could be found visiting with the neighbors in his garage in the evenings. He was loved by everyone who knew him. His sense of humor and love for his family was evident to anyone who met him. Additionally, he was a proud patriot who loved his country and always had a flag in front of his house.

Fred is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters Tracy and Cindy, sons-in-law Eric and Brandon; grandchildren Kinley, Kelsey, Hailey and Hudson; sister and brother-in-law Mary and John; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Paul.                   P-18-1B
