Rose M. VanBeck

Rose M. “Rosie” VanBeck, age 91, of Melrose, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Pine Haven, CentraCare Health-Melrose.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, June 15, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. A private internment was held in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose. 

Rose Marie Rolfzen was born Aug. 31, 1927, in Melrose to Joseph and Hildegarde (Wessel) Rolfzen. She was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” VanBeck  on Oct. 3, 1951, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. She worked as a bookkeeper for the business, Melrose TV and then Melrose TV & Marine for over 40 years. Rosie enjoyed snowmobiling, riding her motorcycle, fishing and time at their lake cottage.

Rosie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose where she sang in the Resurrection Choir and taught religious education for many years. She was also a member of the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary and the Christian Mothers Society. 

Survivors include her husband, Dick; daughter Karen (Mark) Rabinovitch of Minneapolis; grandchildren Jake Rechsteiner of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Hannah (Justin) Bluse of Spooner, Wis.; great-granddaughter Ander Bluse;  and sister Marge Harry of Melrose.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dale VanBeck in 2000; infant granddaughter Katherine Rose in 1978; parents Joe and Hilda Rolfzen; sisters Martha Weber and Jeanette Johnson; brothers-in-law Tony Weber and Ron Harry; and niece Deborah (Weber) Evans of Albany, Minn.
