Sauk Centre man dies following crash

A man has died following a crash north of Sauk Centre Tuesday evening, July 3.

The Minnesota State Patrol was called to the scene of an accident at 8:51 p.m., approximately four miles north of Sauk Centre. Allen James Pagel, 72 of Sauk Centre, was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 71 north of Sauk Centre in Kandota Township, Todd County when his 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche veered off the road, striking a row of mailboxes near the RainbowLodge. The vehicle continued southbound, and eventually veered off to the east, striking several trees before coming to a rest.

Pagel was seriously injured and transported to the St. Cloud Hospital, where he later died.

According to a report from the Minnesota State Highway Patrol released Wednesday, July 4 at 9:47 p.m., road conditions were dry and no alcohol was involved. Pagel was wearing his seatbelt and his airbag deployed.

The Sauk Centre Fire Department and Sauk Centre Ambulance assisted at the scene.
