On 1/12/2020 officers received a call from a female victim, indicating that she had been assaulted by her husband earlier in the morning. Officers learned that the male suspect, later fully identified as Ryan Timothy Kellen, age 27 of Sauk Centre, was making threatening statements, and there was also a 9-year-old juvenile inside the residence with him.
A long standoff ensued, with negotiations between Kellen and officers before the juvenile was released from the residence at approximately 1200 hours. Negotiations continued with Kellen. Kellen did fire one shot out of the residence, but no one was injured. At approximately 1420 hours Kellen surrendered and came out of the residence. Officers were able to arrest Kellen with no injuries.

Kellen was later transported to Stearns County Jail and booked on charges of terroristic threats, domestic assault and assault. The female victim and the juvenile were not injured.

Assisting were the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Melrose Police Department, Belgrade Police Department, Stearns County SWAT, St. Cloud SWAT, Minnesota State Patrol and MN DNR Enforcement Division, Sauk Centre Fire and Ambulance.
