James F. Molkenthin, 80, of Burtrum, passed away of natural causes Dec. 18, 2021, in Melrose.

Jim, the son of a preacher man, was born in Abilene, Texas, Oct. 28, 1941. The family moved around, following the Rev. Fred Molkentin’s church assignments. These include Aitkin and Minneapolis as well as Horton and Sioux Center, Iowa.

Jim graduated from Minneapolis West High School, attended Northwestern Bible College and graduated from St. Cloud State University, earning a teaching degree. He owned and operated the Snapdragon Greenhouse in Burtrum. Jim initiated a local newspaper, The Burtrum News, for many years. He also enjoyed the connections he made through his ham radio hobby.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Adeline (Golden) Molkenthin, and his grandparents.

He is survived by his brothers, Gerald C. (Georgia) Molkenthin and Steven P. (Carol) Molkenthin; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Jim would want everyone to know, in the words of Lennon and McCartney, “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”
