The Albany girls and boys track teams finished second on their new track in a quad-meet among Granite Ridge Conference schools April 23. In addition to a new track, some of the field event areas are also new.
“The first meet on our new track went well,” Albany coach Kathy Conrad said. “We were fortunate that the rain stopped and that there was very little wind.”
The high jump, triple jump, long jump and pole vault areas are also new.
“Nice and springy. No cracks,” Conrad said.
Finishing first for the Albany boys were the 4x800 relay team of Nathan Kalthoff, Mason Zierden, Carter Schwalbe and Grant Mayers in 9 minutes, 8.95 seconds; Adam Dennis in the 100-meter dash at 12.08, Isaac Noska in the 400 at 54.88, Schwalbe in the 3200 at 11:34.03 and Landon Kulzer in the pole vault at 9 feet, 6 inches.
Coming in second were the 4x200 team of Dennis, Jimmy Carlisle, Luke Barrow and Cole Panek in 1:56.65, Mayers in the 1600 at 4:44.36, the 4x100 relay of Dennis, Barrow, Riley Garding and Panek in 48.77, Porter Coplan in the discus at 102-5 and Garding in the long jump at 15-10.5.
In third place were the 4x400 relay team of Zierden, Carlisle, Panek and Mayers at 3:53.84 and Noska in the high jump at 5-4.
For the girls, first places were earned by Kristine Kalthoff in the 1600 at 5:28.35 and the 3200 at 11:42.04; Abbie Christen in the 800 at 2:38.04, the 4x400 relay of Megan Koglin, Emily Spanier, Christen and Kristine Kalthoff in 4:26.67 and Peyton Dirkes in the shot put at 28-9 and discus at 88-2.
Finishing second were the 4x200 relay of Trista Hoffarth, Christen, Koglin and Alyssa Lobitz in 1:56.65, the 4x100 relay of Trista Hoffarth, Brooke Hoffarth, Theresa Kalthoff and Lobitz in 56.33, Veronica Maus in the 300 hurdles at 58.30, Koglin in the 400 at 64.93 and Madison Stich in the shot put at 27-4.
Third place went to Brooke Hoffarth in the 200 at 29.74.
