Erna L. Spehn
Erna L. Spehn, 95, of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully Dec. 13, 2022, at CentraCare Care Center in Melrose.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 19 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with the Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Erna Louise Langwasser was born April 19, 1927, in Hirschhorn, Germany, to Eduard and Hermoine (Guinther) Langwasser. On Jan. 7, 1956, she married LaVerne Spehn in Kaiserslawtern, Germany. Erna worked at the Hi Ho Café in Sauk Centre from the day it opened until the day it closed. Erna was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed all wildlife and domestic animals, especially when it came to feeding the ducks. She also enjoyed going for car and boat rides to look at the scenery. Erna very rarely sat still and always kept busy. Erna was proud of her German heritage and truly loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Evelyn (Steve) Ladd of Palisade, Rosemary (Raymond) Primus of Melrose, and Thomas (Renae) Spehn of New Brighton; nine grandchildren Steven (Danielle), Kevin (Jamie), Megan (Craig), Amanda, Andrew, Patrick (Kayla), Evan (Rachel), Mackenzie and Kaitlyn; and three great-grandchildren Annie, Emerson and Aiden.
Erna was preceded in death by her parents; husband LaVerne Spehn May 5, 2009; daughter Tina Spehn Jan. 18, 2007; sister Lydia Weismann; brothers Karl Langwasser and Heinrich Langwasser; and niece Gabi Knappe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to CentraCare Care Center-Pine Haven in Melrose.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
