Richard R. “Tubby” Herges, 70, of Melrose, passed away May 10, 2022, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
A Mass of Christian Burial was May 17 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Interment was in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in St. Rosa.
Richard Raymond Herges was born March 22, 1952, in Melrose to Eugene “Red” and Alma (Brickweg) Herges. Tubby graduated from Melrose High School. He worked at Jennie-O for over 20 years until his retirement. Tubby enjoyed fishing on Big Birch Lake and had a passion for flowers and gardening. He was a wonderful storyteller and loved making maple syrup with his brother, Joe.
Survivors include his brothers and sisters, Linda (Wayne) Engstrand of Chandler, Arizona, Randy (Suzy) Herges of Waconia, Ronald (Dee) Herges of Battle Creek, Michigan, Steve (Jeanette) Herges of Pelham, Alabama, brother-in-law, Paul Schneider of Perham, Joe Herges of Melrose, and Ann (Brad Klatt) Tschida of Melrose; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Tubby was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Schneider Nov. 28, 2015.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
