Bryan Eugene Schlotfeldt, 64, of Sartell, died July 19, 2023, after a brief illness with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Bryan was born April 12, 1959, in Sauk Centre, to Eugene Schlotfeldt and Marian (Weiner) Reynolds. Bryan graduated from Sauk Centre High School and worked at Carstens Fiberglass Manufacturing in Melrose and at Bear Trap as a bartender in Sauk Centre following graduation. He was a racing enthusiast and loved motorcycles, snowmobiles and drag racing.
In 1991, Bryan suffered from a brain aneurysm, leaving him paralyzed on his right side and with aphasia. During his recovery from the aneurysm, Bryan met the love of his life, Teresa (Krauth) Rock, who was also recovering from a brain aneurysm and paralyzed on the left side of her body. The two met at the Courage Center in Golden Valley and quickly determined their resulting limitations from the aneurysms made them a whole person together. They made their union official June 9, 2000, and made their home in Sauk Rapids with their three children, Amber, Josh and Shantal.
Following their marriage, Bryan was employed by Topp’s Cleaners, a division of Coborn’s Incorporated, for 25 years. Through the years, Bryan enjoyed his annual trips to Brainerd International Raceway with his brother-in-law Dan, weekends with his friend Russell, the Benton County fair and the demolition derby with his grandson, Berkley, and spending time with his eight grandchildren.
Bryan is survived by his wife Teresa (Krauth) Rock of Sartell; his step-children, Amber (Aaron) Marsh of Elk River, Joshua Rock of Sauk Rapids and Shantal (Vernon) Spoden of Rice; eight grandchildren Starlyn Spoden, Samantha Rock, Liam Marsh, Landon Marsh, Berkley Spoden, Cullen Rock, Lachlan Marsh and Brayden Rock; sisters Beth (Dan) Watson and Barbara (Duane) Pettit; brother-in-law Kevin McCauley; step-siblings Janet (Lynn) Engle, Sandy (Barry) Evans and Chuckie (Debbie) Reynolds; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend, Russell Beilke, of Sauk Centre.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marion (Weiner) Reynolds; father Eugene Schlotfeldt; step-father Chuck Reynolds; sister Brenda Fiereck; grandparents Walter and Katherine Weiner and Hugo and Isabelle Schotfeldt, a special nephew; and his beloved dog, Bella Rose.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, Aug. 12, from 1-5 p.m. at the home of Shantal and Vernon Spoden, 609 SW Third Street, Rice, MN 56367. All friends and family are welcome to join in remembering the great man our Papa was as friend, brother, husband and grandpa.
