Michael E. Kortan
Michael E. “Mike” Kortan, 72, of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully June 2, 2023, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with the Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. June 7 at the church.
Michael Ervin Kortan was born March 11, 1951, in Sauk Centre, to Frank and Loretta (Vogel) Kortan. He was united in marriage to Theresa Uphus Nov. 24, 1973, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Greenwald. Mike owned and operated his own trucking company for a number of years but mainly worked for numerous companies, driving locally and over the road for the past 38 years.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Knights of Columbus and volunteered at the local TEC, REC and Koinonia groups. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, especially in the mountains in Montana. He also loved driving truck and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Theresa Kortan of Melrose; son Dean (Becky) Gould of Milaca; grandchildren Deanna and Jesse Gould; great-grandson James Gould; and sisters Darlene (John) Dols of Sauk Centre, Jeanette (Joseph) Loehr of Melrose, and Julie Grams of St. Cloud.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Karen Moening and Bernice Uhlenkamp.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral and Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
