Leora Wilcox Barthel

From a simple Sauk Centre farm where six sisters plowed and milked their way through the Depression, to working on the American Ambassador’s team in Australia, Leora Wilcox Barthel lived a long, rich life of over a century. Through her 100 years on this Earth, Lee was the matriarch of her family, caring for others and always welcoming those in need of support. She was also passionate about taking care of our planet, working tirelessly for environmental organizations and serving as a leader in the Izaak Walton league. Leora joins her beloved husband George and is survived by her daughter Julie (Andrew) Mackenzie; four grandchildren Christopher (Eszter) Taylor, Heather (Tony) Saucier, Curtis (Kathleen) Mackenzie and Kelsey (Connor) Ostrander; and five great grandchildren Emma, Ethan and Elliott Taylor and Aidan and Arabelle Saucier. She was deeply loved and will be missed. A private inurnment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Sauk Centre Historical Society, Friends of the Sinclair Lewis Library or an environmental cause.
