Minutes Summary for September 7, 2022

School Board Work Session Holdingford Public School

The Holdingford School Board held a School Board Work Session on September 7,  2022. Members present: Evelyn Martini, Sarah Binek, Lori Opatz, and Robert Knettel.

Absent: Pat Meier, Ed Feia, and Elissa Ebnet. Also attending was Superintendent Chris Swenson, Elementary Principal Jim Stang, Secondary Principal Tim Wege, and Adm Assistant Linda Zapzalka.

Mr. Swenson updated the Board on the facility projects. The parking lot is complete, the bus garage apron was revised to accommodate the water flow, the condensing units for the HVAC project are on backorder, and the science room counter tops are in route; they will replace the temp countertops as soon as they are here.

He thanked all those involved with the donation of the Octoball Court. A great addition to the playground!

Discussion on Portrait of a Graduate took place. Mr. Swenson summarized the purpose for a Portrait of a Graduate which is to create an atmosphere for students to learn more about their options for their futures. He would like to move forward with gathering input, developing goals and creating a plan for our students to be successful after high school.

A lengthy discussion took place on state testing, how it affects teachers and students, and the value placed on it.

Mr. Swenson summarized the updates and revisions of the MSBA Policies affected by MSBA’s discontinuance of its Service Manual. The updates address that change and update other references. These changes are not substantive and will be on the agenda for board approval at the next board meeting.
